Benchmarking in the Fields of Vocational Training, Sheltered Employment, and Sheltered Workshops
More nations are providing remote employment opportunities for those with disabilities. The systems in place enable full public participation in the economy. Operators of shelters and other organizations that provide services to persons with special needs use management techniques derived from the corporate sector, such as quality assurance procedures, to obtain ISO 9000 accreditation (Visier, 347). Institutional strategies, however, have varied in reaction to different legal situations, from specific organizational law requirements to a nation’s general business legislation (Visier, 347). Although the United Arab Emirates (UAE) maintains a scheme for sheltered employment,
The employment model, which includes workshops and vocational training, is confined and different from those of other countries like Sweden and Canada; as a result, the country can learn some crucial lessons to implement the best practices in these fields.
In the UAE, protected employment, protected workshops, and vocational training
The UAE requires employers to treat people with special needs equally and fairly. The country has ratified the UNCRPD, which outlines requirements for hiring people with disabilities (“Employment of People of Determination”). The standards there are lower than in other countries, especially those with sophisticated economies, although it has specific guidelines for how individuals are employed. Federal Law No. 29 of 2006 Concerning the Rights of People with Special Needs and Dubai Government Law No. 2 of 2014 are two examples of laws protecting citizens (“Employment of People of Determination”). National legislation mandates that people with exceptional needs work and hold public office. Their challenges should, therefore, not disqualify them from consideration for any post. When deciding whether or not they are qualified for the position, their criteria should also be considered (“Employment of People of Determination”). The UAE’s legal system provides these workers with many great opportunities.
